May Giveaway Day Prize

In celebration of Sew Mama Sew's May Giveaway Day on 21 May, I am going to be giving away this adorable old school tattoo inspired rose.

I embroidered it by hand on a piece of vintage tea towel and then framed it in a 7" by 8" frame.

I tried to accent the petals of the rose by filling in the edges of them with the red color I used throughout the rose. The leaves are stitched in a green thread. The light green matting and the almost whitewash sort of look of the frame give this rose a nice softness that it would have been missing otherwise.

In order to qualify to win this rose, you will need to leave a comment telling me what features you think are the most important in choosing a new purse. Do you look for types or quantity of pockets or do you concentrate more on the color and overall look of the purse?

Let me know what you think and I will choose one of the comments randomly. You have until 5 p.m., pacific standard time on 25 May to post your comment. Please post only once and make sure to leave your email address so that I can contact you to find out where to ship the prize.

I will let everyone know who has won by 27 May and I will ship the prize (this includes to international addresses) by 1 June.

If you would like to check out even more opportunities to win other great prizes, go check out Sew Mama Sew's website. There are various categories of giveaway items, so make sure to check them all out!

  1. I have a huge purse fetish. The purse has to have specific features. POCKETS! there has to be at least one if not two on the outside. Pockets on the inside at least a couple. The purse has to be big enough so a wallet, inhaler, pens, and calendar fit with out making it look over stuffed. Also it can't be too heavy. I do like to carry my knitting in my purse at times too so one of my purses has to be big enough for that.

  2. I used to be very specific about cell phone pockets... then I switched to a smartphone and none of my purses' pockets were designed for that :( I'll go for structure (don't like them floppy), large enough for a paperback as well as pocketbook-style wallet, smartphone, keys. But other than that, I like colors :)

  3. I go for the look usually rather than pockets- that's something to worry about later!

  4. In picking a purse, first would be color/style and then pockets inside! Your handwork is beautiful! And red is my favorite color! I think this would look great on my sewing room wall! Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great giveaway! :)

  5. I look for purses that aren't too big that I can wear on my shoulder and pinch under my arm when I walk for security. I love seatbelt bags and LeSportsac prints and bold fabric bags for projects. Have a great week.

  6. For me, my #1 thing is that it has to have the long, cross-body strap. Otherwise, I will lose it!

  7. Cool stitchery. I'm terrible. I look for color and then weight. I figure I can always add my own "pockets" with the many sizes of zippered pouches I have and it doesn't matter if there's a phone pocket because in purses past, I've never used it properly so my phone is always at the bottom of the thing. Ditto for my keys. But color is important to me and so is weight. I tend to load up my bags so it's helpful if it isn't super heavy when it's empty. But, I admit that I have several bags that are heavy even when empty (leather) that I could not resist for the color.

  8. Pretty stitching! I look for size and strap length, followed by closures. I am petite, and can look like a bag lady if I'm not careful. And I hate purses that open and spill easily. Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. I make sure the purse is big enough to hold all my stuff and that I can find it and get it out... so lots of inside pockets.

  10. I always like to make sure a purse "feels right" on my shoulder and the length of the strap is correct for me to secure the purse under my arm to protect my belongings. Pockets are just an extra feature on the "right" purse.

    Great giveaway -- thanks much.

  11. size and pockets. I seem to carry everything for an emergency, or empty it to carry essential, so I can shop and fill with purchases.

  12. It all depends on the ocasion. I like every form of purse. though it has to be roomie, not big but rommie, easy to get to stuff.

  13. I look for color first but it has to have lots of pockets and organizing compartments before I will buy it.

  14. American purse of British one? I will answer British. I think colour is important and then there being space for cards.

  15. Well...I definitely scope out the inner lining. I am a sucker for beautiful linings and then pockets, and functionality and form and then outer beauty.

  16. Size, I like large bags that I can throw lots of stuff inside from a scarf to lunch box.

  17. Well, I make my purses...and if I do buy them, I get them at yard sales or second hand stores...so price is important to me, quality, and yes, room! It needs to have pockets and space for all my junk!

Thanks for a chance to win your beautiful embroidery!

  18. As long as it matches what I have on and the appropriate season, I am good to go. sometimes big, sometimes small. But it always, always has to match.

  19. What a beautiful rose!
I tend to lose things in my bag and always look for them so what I really consider very important is inner pockets that are safe with zips!AriadnefromGreece!ariadnesky@hotmail.com

  20. I LOVE this rose and hope I win. That said, you have the most unique question to answer, which I LOVE also. I choose my purse based on size, it MUST fit everything I carry, it also must "feel" good, I don't like things I have to hang in my wrists or that fall off my shoulder repeatedly. Of course I care about color and quality, but function before form for this girl!! Just in case my contact info is: scrapgirl1467 (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Thank you for participating in the giveaway and for offering such a lovely prize.

    Have a good day,
    Maureen

  21. I look for one who fits my need most :-)

  22. The look is what catches my eye first, but I'll only buy it if there are pockets inside (at least one pocket that can be fastened and ideally a phone pocket too). That's unless it's something really unusual that I would use for special occasions etc.

  23. It has to look good and be well made.. I don't get a lot of purses online becasue i like to feel them and make sure that they are not poorly made but with etsy and such you can read feedback and make sure everyone likes theirs... I like pockets and it has to be sturdy enough that if its washable i can throw it in the washer without it falling apart. i love the look of handmade bags though becasue you can;t find anything in the prints in stores and they are original:)

  24. I tend to gravitate to hobo style purses - don't like anything too structured although I do get frustrated with everything in one big pocket. Although when there is more than one, I can never find anything and ALWAYS have to go thru every pocket before i do find what i am looking for.

  26. I love the rose!

I travel a lot on the tube (subway) so any bag I have needs to have secure closures! And I love internal pockets. Also, because it rains too much in London, a vaguely waterproof exterior!
